Can you tell what is old and what is new? George wanted to demonstrate that one does not need to totally gut a bathroom, to update it. A row of tiles were cut out of the existing 4 x 4 shower tiles. Glass tile was inserted as an accent to give the shower surround a modern look. The walls were treated with a technique that creates the illusion that the walls are covered in suede. Inexpensive ceramic tile was set over the damaged floor. A custom vanity and beautiful hand carved marble sink are the splurges in the room.

Back Splash in Alliance Francaise's Kitchen

Isn't the back splash tile a beautiful complement to the faux painting
on the walls, cabinets and floor?

The tile is a 3 x 6 subway tile, with rectified edge, set in a running bond pattern. The accent tile is from Oceanside.

Handpainted Italian Back Splash

This back splash was a lot of fun for George to do. The field tiles were purchased by the owner's in Italy, without border tiles. The owner's saw our advertisement in New Orleans Home & Lifestyles Magazine and called to see if George could do what other contractors said could not be done. George designed the profile, for the border tiles, along with choosing the blue color. He took the design to Derby Tile and Mark Derby handmade and colored the border tiles.

This bathroom is our latest project featuring glass tile made from recycled Coke bottles, recessed LED lighting, custom silver gilded/mirrored vanities,(with hand carved solid marble sinks), and radiant heating in the floor. We were honored to have this beautiful bath featured in the June issue of New Orleans Homes & Lifestyles. We will be posting more photographs

Fireplace with Derby Tile

Here is a fireplace surround that we installed using tile from Derby Tile on Magazine St. The owner, Mark Derby, custom made tiles as well as filling in with various over run tiles from previous jobs. Some of the over run tiles were from a job I had ordered for a customer, before the storm!

6 x 12 Glass Tile Bar

These glass tiles not only were very large, they also had a micro bevel on the edge. I duplicated the edge on every cut piece. Note the close up photo of the tile around the bracket to see the duplicated micro bevel edge cut.

JLNO Kitchen Tour

We had a blast at the Junior League of New Orleans 2008 Kitchen Tour for Children's Education. GS Hewitt LLC was a Silver Spoon kitchen sponsor. George spent the day at Mrs. Roberts' kitchen, where he had installed the backsplash, meeting lots of nice people on the tour. Here we are again in the Summer 2008 issue of Lagniappe (the Junior League of New Orleans) quarterly magazine. George can be seen on the left talking to a visitor, in
Mrs. Roberts' kitchen. It really was a fun day and we know the 2009 tour will be just as fabulous.

We also donated 8 hours of design time to be auctioned at the Patron Party for the Tour. George is in the process of designing the bathroom with the winner.

Fireplace Surrounds

This is the before picture of the fireplace. The owners sent the mantle out to be dipped,
stripped
and repaired.
I restored the firebox,the front surround,the hearth and then re-installed the mantle after some minor assembly of trim pieces.

By drawing this fireplace surround to scale we were able to catch an awkward one inch high row of tiles just below the cap molding on top.The drawing enabled us to adjust the layout to create a
sym-
metrical
layout.

Custom Limestone Backsplash

This is a custom limestone back splash that was cut from 12 x12 limestone tiles. Though it appears that these are square tiles in the center, they are actually rhomboids! We did this to avoid the problem of having what I call saw teeth at the top and the sides of the border tile. It looks so much better to have whole and full half tiles centered around the border. This back splash project took about 2 and1/2 hours to plan the layout, and about 4 hours to prepare the walls before we could do an offset brick pattern.

Marble, Marble and More Marble

This is one of my favorite projects! We started out having to shrink the size of the tub to 60in. In order for the tub to have enough clearance between the window and the tub,we had to make the tub deck as small as possible. In order to dress it up I fabricated a marble base board. It looked so good, the client and I decided to extend it around the entire room. Then we wrapped it around the water closet and shower doors. Then around the entry doors. Finally we said lets finish it right and went around the PC Glass block window!

Custom Bookcases

These custom bookcases were built into the wall cavity, extending into the room 6 inches instead of the usual 12 inches. The crown molding is unpainted because it is no longer a stock item. It was custom milled to match the existing molding, by New Orleans Custom Millworks.

Unique Uptown Tub Enclosure

Working within the original footprint of the bathroom, new tile was installed on the floor and
walls. The original bathtub was re-glazed. The bright white subway tile with a cap was placed at 42" around the entire bathroom. Notice the placement at the window sill.

As you can see from the right and left views of the tub enclosure, glass tile can be used in many
innovative ways. Designed by Stafford Tile and Stone, the glass tile updates what would have been a typical Uptown Shotgun bathroom remodel.

Lovely Lime Stone Master Bath

Close up of basket weave glass tile. The lime stone tiles are custom cut and beveled. The glass mosaic is manufactured to have a rustic appearance once installed.

Lime stone floor 6 x 12 offset pattern.

Close up of master bath tub surround tiled in San Sebastian lime stone. Custom cut from 12 x 12 tiles into 6 x 12 tiles, set in an off set pattern. The tile was purchased from Stafford Tile and Stone.
